Drug and Alcohol Awareness Training and Drug Policy Development

At Drug-Aware we offer a full suite of training and consultancy services designed to bring our clients the considerable benefits of a substance-free working environment – such as drug awareness training courses, alcohol information sessions, drug and alcohol policy development training or review services, and much more.

We have a solution to fit any UK company from small businesses all the way up to blue chip organisations.  Visit www.drug-aware.com for more detailed information or browse the following page to view services which we feel would be the most likely to be beneficial to you:

Drug and Alcohol Policy Review

This involves studying your existing company drugs and alcohol policy and adding any additional clauses that would make it easier to operate and more legally defensible.  We would also point out any areas of the current document which may not be optimum for what you are trying to achieve.  The process is normally fairly swift, but will continue at no additional cost until you have a final policy that you are happy with.  In every instance so far, this new drug and alcohol policy document is substantially more robust than your first draft.

Drug and Alcohol Awareness Training Courses for Management

As an initial measure, most companies start with drug awareness training at their premises.  In the event that a policy has yet to be developed, we recommend a single day for the uppermost levels of management, beyond which they can make an educated and informed decision as to how to proceed.  Our one day certificated courses are highly acclaimed and are based upon a daily rate which is inclusive of any travel / accommodation costs.

However, if your policy only requires a review, we feel that you would only require a half day training session for your managers.  The training would cover many areas, including how to recognise the signs and symptoms of substance misuse, how to recognise the substances themselves, the effects that these substances have in relation to safety, your legal obligations and what should be avoided, understanding the policy, how to carry out testing and a walk through all of the procedures.  All drug awareness, policy development and testing courses can be delivered to audiences of up to 20 people.

One of the more popular trainers is our Technical Director, Christopher Evans.  He is a specialist in drug and alcohol screening and awareness training, and has trained staff from over 70 UK HM Prisons, several Police Forces, and well over a hundred NHS hospitals, drug treatment centres, GP surgeries, etc.  Not to mention the literally thousands of delegates from all industry sectors who have attended his training seminars on workplace drug awareness, policy development and testing.

Drug Policy and Awareness Briefings for Staff

When all management have been trained, many companies also opt for us to cascade the information down to all members of staff in 40 minute briefings with approximately 10-15 minutes for questions.  This allows us to address all questions and concerns that the workforce has and makes your workplace drugs policy that much more robust because it has been explained to all members of staff.  These briefings are typically carried out in blocks of either half days (which include 4 hourly sessions), or full days (which include 8 hourly sessions).  These training sessions can accommodate up to 60 people, provided you have the space to gather them all together.  If you require more than 8 hourly sessions in a day, you may add up to a further 2 for an additional fee.

Training in Workplace Drug Testing

For companies who wish to commence workplace drug testing to actively encourage a drug-free workplace we can carry out training sessions specifically to train the appropriate managers in chain of custody procedures so that they can facilitate the testing aspect of the policy without needing outside intervention.  The on-site screening procedures (complete with laboratory confirmation) that we provide training in, cover the entire drug and alcohol testing process from start to finish in such a way that is fully traceable and will stand up in a court of law.
